Southern Scholar is a monthly subscription box for men’s dress socks. Each shipment contains a pair of unique and premium quality dress socks for men. Every box comes with a complimentary head-to-toe style guide that contains pairing recommendations and outfit suggestions from stylists. Members can expect to save up to 30% compared to retail socks of comparable style and quality. Most members receive their box between the 3rd and 7th of every month.
Southern Scholar is ideal for the busy professional who loves to dress sharp, from head-to-toe, and wants to wear comfortable and high-quality socks with unique and sophisticated designs. Members receive the “sock of the month,” but if they aren’t happy with the design or color, they can exchange for a pair of their choice.
This men’s subscription box is perfect for anyone who wants variety in their sock drawer without the hassle of shopping in-store.
Every month, subscribers receive one pair of socks, between the 3rd and 7th of the month. If you start your subscription before the 21st of the month, your first pair ships within 48 business hours. If you sign up after the 21st, you will receive your first pair will ship out on the 1st of the month.
To start your monthly subscription with Southern Scholar, either select “Getting Started” in the upper right hand of the home page or click on “Become a Member” on the main page. You have three subscription options: month-to-month, 6, or 12 months. If you aren’t interested in getting a subscription for yourself, you can “Gift It.”
After you select the length of subscription, you fill out a standard contact form which includes shipping and billing information. Once you fill-in all the necessary info, you’re ready to place your order and will receive your stylish dress socks by or around the 1st of the month.
Even though men’s subscription services are becoming increasingly popular, the option for high-quality socks for men with expensive taste and an eye for fashion remains limited. Southern Scholar has seasonal collections with colors and patterns that are appropriate for year-round wear as well as summer or winter.
You don’t need to be a business professional, who dresses to the nines regularly, to appreciate a great looking pair of socks that fit well. Southern Scholar socks have a design that accommodates larger feet and won’t slide down as much as other socks.
Southern Scholar strives to bring fashion and quality to the sock world, but one of the biggest downsides is that you have little say in the socks you receive.
Southern Scholar members have three subscription plan options. If you select longer, pre-paid options, the monthly cost is less.
Regardless of which plan you choose, you will receive one pair of the “sock of the month,” the complimentary style guide, and access to the “Members Only” shop, which sells socks from previous collections.
If you select the 6 or 12-month plan, you can shop at the “Members Only” shop with a 20% discount on any socks.
Your credit card is charged as soon as you sign up to become a Southern Scholar member. If you sign up for the Month-to-Month plan, your card is charged on the 1st of every month. If you select the 6 or 12-month plan, you will be charged in full for the subscription period.
The plan will automatically renew unless you modify your account or cancel your service.
All Southern Scholar orders go out on the first of every month, which means that all members should receive their curated box by the 7th of the month. New members may receive their first pair of socks shortly after registering or on the first of the month, depending on when they sign up for the service.
Shipping is always free, and if you need to exchange or return your socks for any reason, that’s free as well. International orders may take up to 21 days for shipping.
Since Southern Scholar is a relatively new sock subscription boxes, most of the Southern Scholar reviews are available on the company’s Facebook page. Duplicate Southern Scholar reviews appear to be on the company’s official website.
Given the limited reviews available, Southern Scholar receives a 5-star rating. Most reviewers comment on the quality and comfort of the socks as well as the “no-slip down” design and fit. Reviewers love the color and patterns, and many comment on excellent customer service.
While the majority of people commenting in the Southern Scholar review are using the service for themselves, some reviewers signed up for the subscription service as a gift for those “hard to shop for” men in their lives.
Even though Southern Scholar is a five-star rated company, it’s important to keep in mind that the lack of negative reviews may be due to the young age of the company or having control over which reviews are published on Facebook.

Southern Scholar founder, Kevin Wohlman has always considered himself somewhat of an entrepreneur. From an early age, he found creative ways to make money, and he thought an Accounting degree from Arizona State in 2014 would take him where he wanted to go.
After a few short internships in Dallas, Wohlman started to shift his focus to things that interested him, and one of those things was unique dress socks. While still doing an internship, Wohlman decided to launch his own business, Southern Scholar, and learn more about textiles, design, and manufacturing.
The primary focus during the first two years included designing the perfect sock with function and fashion in mind. Wohlman credits his award-winning socks to his drive to do something different and a support system of family and friends, who are also his first customers.
