Smuggler’s Bounty boxes include official Star Wars licensed products and contain memorabilia from the Star Wars franchise. Boxes contain Star Wars themed collectibles, apparel, and accessories. Boxes are valued at over $50, and the contents are secret until each release date. Shipping follows a schedule based on a cutoff date for new subscriptions, arriving every other month.
Each box includes at least one Pop! Vinyl figure. Otherwise, the items are secret and vary each shipment period. Contents include apparel, accessories, toys, memorabilia, and other items. Only one subscription option is available, with delivery every other month. However, these boxes will only available for a limited time.
Unfortunately for current and prospective subscribers, Funko’s subscription boxes are being phased out. The Star Wars box (and other themed boxes) will only be available until September 15, 2018. Past boxes are for sale now, but after the subscriptions end, boxes will move to retail locations for sale.
Current inventory on the website is what’s left of the online sales supply, and future boxes will only be available through limited retailers. Check back on the company website or blog to see which locations will carry future products after the subscription end date.
For all orders, if an item arrives damaged, customers need to reach out within 15 days of receiving the product. The company also includes apparel in their boxes, so customers need to provide sizing information. However, if an item is the wrong size upon arrival, they will not offer an exchange or refund.
Currently subscribed and past members have access to past boxes while supplies last. This means that even if you had a subscription that ended, you can still access the online store and purchase boxes while they’re still in stock.
Other exclusive products and discounts are also available. You must sign into your account on the website to view the member store. The Members Exclusives section shows currently available boxes for sale and is essentially a clearance rack for remaining stock.
Reviewers with Smuggler’s Bounty subscriptions have commented on the Better Business Bureau website that the company allows consumers to cancel their subscriptions online, but that the functionality of the tool isn’t reliable.
However, the company’s website doesn’t currently outline the steps customers need to take to cancel online.
The parent company, Funko, has an F rating on the BBB website. The majority of reviewers are concerned with the unreliable quality of the company’s toys, while many also struggle with billing and delivery discrepancies.
Other customers disapprove of the quality of products, which may be a concern for subscribers since the contents of the boxes are secret until the shipments arrive. However, many of these reviews are based on other products and not strictly the subscription boxes.
Unfortunately, there is no separate business page for the subscription box part of the company, so sifting through reviews is necessary to clarify what the pros and cons are of the service. However, it’s worth noting that the BBB scores the parent company at an F based on a combination of factors.
While customer reviews influence the overall score, Funko itself receives low marks for being mostly non-responsive to online customer concerns.
Subscription boxes ship every other month. Each month’s box has a cutoff date, after which boxes will not go out until the next shipping period. Past boxes ship within two weeks of order placement. Each shipment has a tracking number, and you can track your order via your online account or through email.
Currently, Smuggler’s Bounty subscription options only ship to locations within the US, Canada, and to APO or FPO addresses. Some items in the store may be available for international shipping.
In addition to an FAQ section, the company has a contact email address for customer concerns. There’s also a specific email address via the parent company that centers around the subscription service.
The company’s social media pages across Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube can also offer answers about their policies and products.
While you can edit many account preferences through your customer account login, the provider does not provide information on canceling a subscription via the subscriber dashboard. Based on BBB reviews, contacting the company directly may prove the most effective way to be sure your subscription is canceled.
Ultimately, all subscriptions will be canceled by the provider as the promotion phases out. Customers who are mid-subscription will receive a refund for any remaining balances after the final box delivery.
A division of Funko, Smuggler’s Bounty is a Lucasfilm-approved producer and retailer of Star Wars memorabilia. Their products range from action figures to apparel and subscription boxes that offer Disney, DC, Marvel, and Star Wars toys and collectibles.
Mike Becker is the founder of Funko, and its original focus was nostalgic toys and bobbleheads. Today’s products are mostly pop culture toys in plush, action figure, and electronic form. Becker conceived the company in 1998 and was purposely low-tech.
In 2005, Becker sold the company. Brian Mariotti is the current CEO while Chris Perlmutter serves as president, and under their direction, the company has signed licensing deals with Marvel, DC Comics, WWE, Lucasfilm, Sony Pictures, Disney, the NFL, Netflix, Mattel, and more.
Funko’s Pop! Vinyl figures mimic an anime style while their bobbleheads have stood the test of time throughout the company’s existence. Subscription boxes began in 2015 with a Marvel collectors box. At the same time the Star Wars themed box rolled out, so did both DC and Disney versions.
While the company is moving away from the subscription box model, other subscription services still offer Funko brand toys with their products. The company’s product lines are also available in-store in many retail locations across the world.
Many Funko items are available in stores, but the subscription box options deliver exclusive items that are not sold elsewhere. See the video below for an unboxing video by Smuggler’s Bounty that showcases some of the products you can expect to receive in a subscription box.
