Scentbird offers you the opportunity to sample a new designer fragrance each month. Each box includes a 30-day supply of your selected fragrance. Drop for drop, the price of each fragrance is similar to the retail price, but you get to try the scent before committing to the full-size price. Each box is designated to ship upon receipt of selection and payment.
All Scentbird subscribers start out with a monthly package at $14.95 per month. After starting, members can upgrade to a 3, 6, or 12 - month plan for additional savings.
30 Day Supply
All subscriptions are recurring, or automatically billed, unless members cancel before the end of the term.
Each monthly shipment contains a 30-day supply, about 140 sprays, of a designer fragrance of your choice. With the first shipment, you also get a sleek case to hold your spray sample and re-use for future samples.
When you sign up for the subscription service, you will create a queue of the fragrances you intend to sample. You can change or modify your queue as you try different scents from a large selection of niche and designer fragrances.
The company offers gift subscriptions as well as gift sets of fragrances.
Gift subscriptions can be purchased for friends and family. Gifted packages follow the same procedures as purchased packages: the recipient will take a scent quiz, create their queue of selected scents and wait for their box to arrive.
Gift sets include three carefully selected 0.3 oz sample spray bottles in a deluxe case. Recipients of a gift set will receive one-month free membership if they decide to become a subscriber.
Scentbird also offers an online store. Non-members can purchase perfumes and colognes, limited edition fragrances, exclusive brands. Shipping and handling on purchases from the Scentbird Shop is not free, as it is with the subscription packages.
Shoppers at the online shop can purchase both sample and full-size bottles. Subscription members are eligible for a store credit of $15.00 towards the purchase of a full-size bottle of a fragrance of their choice.
In our efforts to locate reviews of Scentbird, we checked with several online review sources. Trustpilot.com has no reviews, and the business remains unclaimed. Consumeraffairs.com also shows no review of the company, but they do have a description of the service.
The Better Business Bureau’s bbb.org has no rating or accreditation for the company. The BBB overview shows a pattern of complaints about delivery and customer service. Complainants say that contacting customer service is difficult and responses are a long time coming—if there is a response at all. Other complaints include the difficulty or inability to cancel the monthly subscription.
Highya.com gives the company 3.3 stars on a five-star rating system. Of the 101 consumer reviews, 58 of them are four or five stars. Most of the 43 complaints are about shipping delays, the breakage of the product during shipping, and the difficulty of contacting customer service. A few of the complaints were about multiple charges on credit cards.
Curiously, more than forty-five of the four and five-star reviews have been posted in the last two days. Perhaps Scentbird has recently made some changes in shipping and customer service.
The purchase of the first month of the subscription should ship within a few days of the order. Delivery should take between seven and ten days of shipping.
According to the site’s FAQ page, recurring shipments are shipped in batches either around the third week of the month or later in the month, with billing on the 5th day of the month. Again, delivery should take seven to ten days.
When an order is shipped, members will get an email notification with a tracking number. The tracking number will allow members to follow the progress of their package. The FAQ page notes that there may be delays in ground- and air shipping because perfumes are considered flammable, therefore hazardous, materials.
Members with questions, concerns, or suggestions can reach out to customer service in at least three ways. Currently, Scentbird does not offer phone support.
Customers can reach customer service through:
If you find that monthly sampling of fragrances is not a good fit for you, you can cancel your month-to-month membership by accessing your account and canceling under the “Subscription Status” tab.
If you hold a prepaid subscription, you can’t cancel, but you can opt out of auto-renewal by contacting customer support.
Scentbird was founded in September 2013 by Mariya (Masha) Nurislamova, who grew up in Berezniki, Russia. She learned to appreciate quality perfumes as a young girl. Her grandmother first shared her Red Moscow, and later Masha’s aunt would smuggle international fragrances into their home. Young Nurislamova found the lovely scents a good escape from the run-down industrial area where she lived.
After immigrating to the US, Mariya Nurislamova turned her dream into a reality by creating Scentbird. She says that she created the service to provide an alternative to spending big bucks on a large bottle of a scent that you find you don’t like after wearing it for a few days.
In addition to the subscription service, in 2016 the company added their online store, allowing customers to purchase a 30-day supply of a fragrance without joining the subscription service.
The company has a solid social media presence, with profiles on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, and YouTube. The following video is from the Scentbird YouTube channel.
