kiwi crate review

Kiwi Crate is a science subscription box for kids. Each month, subscribers receive an age-appropriate toy that they can build themselves. With this service, parents save time at the toy store, while kids enjoy the fun and excitement that comes with receiving a new package each month. Each month, a new box ships within a few days after your anniversary date, and arrives 5-8 business days later.

How It Works

Kiwi Crate works according to the following steps. First, you're going to pick out the brand that works best for your child. If you're not sure you're making the right selection, don't worry! You can switch brands anytime.

Next, it's time to select your delivery duration. Subscription lengths include monthly, three months, six months, and twelve months. All subscriptions will renew automatically unless otherwise specified by you. After you pick your duration, there’s an option for personalization. Then, once this is complete, your first crate will arrive within two business days.

Finally, it's time for your child to receive their crate. It should have arrived on-schedule and be ready for your child to dive in! There are no shipping charges for subscription services occurring in the United States. Subscribers can cancel anytime.

The sign-up process is straightforward and explained in-depth on the company's website. You must understand that the company designed different subscription lines based on the age of your child. You can also select subscriptions based on the types of projects your child would like to complete.

What Makes Kiwi Crate Unique?

When children are passionate about science and engineering, it makes sense to put as many projects geared toward those disciplines as possible. Kiwi Crate's mission is to help children have fun during their learning experiences. The company offers a subscription box service that includes instructions and materials for building exciting and interesting hands-on projects. These projects teach your children about design, engineering, science, and technology.

While children are learning these strategies, they're also embracing their artistic side. If you're trying to get your child to take an interest in these subjects, this is an excellent subscription service to consider.

Kiwi Crate Reviews

Kiwi Crate has 175 reviews on Trustpilot, and a booming community on its Facebook page.  Even though Trustpilot’s reviews amounted to a 2.5-star rating, that hasn’t stopped a steady flow of positive comments from being posted on Facebook.

When you visit the company’s Facebook page, you’ll see a variety of user-generated content ranging from images of children with their finished projects, videos of projects, and unboxing videos. There’s also a mix of contextual posts expressing the consumer’s genuine satisfaction for the projects, materials, and instructions.

Sprinkled among these Facebook posts are also subscribers who had issues with their crates. Some of these issues included not receiving battery packs, broken motors, and another user stating they had problems with every box they ever received. The company responded to every post with a request for a private message so they could work toward a resolution.

Heading over to Trustpilot will show you customers who love the products, but are mainly having challenges with canceling their subscriptions. In each instance, a customer service representative went above and beyond to help those subscribers resolve their issues.

Those who posted positive reviews expressed how much they loved that their children are building these high-quality projects and using their imaginations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some questions subscribers commonly ask about Kiwi Crate.

Will I receive a charge on my credit card if I don't make a purchase?

That depends on the subscription box you select. If you opt for the “Try Before You Buy” box, you won’t experience any upfront charges. There’s a seven-day trial period for your child to try on clothing, make decisions, decide what to keep and decide what to return or exchange. With this box, you only pay for what you keep. If you opt for the “Build Your Own Box,” that’s a prepaid selection.

Will I receive a charge on my credit card if I don't make a purchase?

If you decide to "pause" your subscription, you won't see charges on your credit card. Log into your "My Account" page, and click on the "Subscriptions" section. Find the subscription you would like to pause and click, "Edit." Then, click on "Pause Subscription." As long as you keep your subscription paused, you won't incur any charges. Once the pause period is complete, your subscription will automatically resume.

How do I contact customer service?

There are two ways to contact Kiwi Crate:

When do the subscription boxes ship?

Under most circumstances, first-time subscribers receive their Kiwi Crates within one to two business days after completing their order. Those who have received a crate within the past month will receive another during the following subscription period. Moving forward, every crate will ship out following our billing date. You can find this information on your "My Account" page and in your initial confirmation email.

Can I order multiple crates?

Yes. Kiwi Crate will group multiple crates into one shipment to the same address. That way, we're sure they're arriving on-time. If you're a first-time subscriber, we'll send the first one out as soon as possible. Then, all subsequent crates will ship together in the same box moving forward?

Company History

Launched in 2011 by Sanda Oh Lin after finding it difficult to source materials for her own children's projects, Kiwi Crate came to fruition. Founded initially as a monthly subscription service, the company has grown to sell more than $100 million in crates. With a staff that's more than 70% female, Kiwi Crate also brings in groups of toddlers and teens to test products approximately four times weekly.

Today, instead of one monthly kit, the company offers seven lines catering to different age groups and price specifications. Instead of depending on focusing on massive digital marketing efforts, Kiwi Crate relies heavily on word-of-mouth recommendations.
