How It Works

This murder mystery subscription box is great for any detective who’s looking for a fun and immersive mystery to solve. Each month, you’ll receive another piece of a 6 episode puzzle. Every box contains new clues like evidence, witness statements, and more, and includes a detective’s notebook to keep all your findings in order. There are 6 episodes per season, and once you’re finished, you can move onto the next mystery!

To sign up, head to their website and select See If You Qualify on their homepage. From there, you’ll take a quick survey that asks questions about how easily scared you are and who you plan to play the game with (if anyone).

From there, you can decide between a Month-to-Month, Season Pass (6-Month), or Double Season (12-Month) membership. You’ll get the same amount of stuff per box no matter which one you choose, so it depends more on how long you want to play.

Once you’ve chosen your package, fill in your billing and shipping information, and wait for your first murder mystery box to arrive!

What Makes Hunt A Killer Unique?

Hunt A Killer is developed and put together by skilled true crime writers. They create settings, characters, and evidence to fully immerse you in the experience of being a murder detective. Each box, or episode, is part of a larger mystery, and over the course of 6 months, you’ll receive new clues until you reach the end of the season.

You have the option to stop there or continue with a new series of episodes. If you want, there’s even an option to buy the whole season at once so you don’t have to wait a whole month for the next box. You can also request early shipping if you finish solving the mystery before the next box ships.

Pricing & What’s Included

Although each subscription package contains the same mysteries, there are a few different options for how you can receive the boxes and how many seasons you can sign up for. The more you sign up for, the more murders you can solve, each over a 6 month period. You can choose from these subscription options:

Month-To-Month

This box is the most expensive at $30 per month. It’s also the easiest to pause or cancel if you find you don’t have time to solve the mysteries every month.

Season Pass (6-Month)

This is the most popular option at $27.95 per month. It gives you a full 6 months of mystery boxes so you can complete a full season. You save 8 percent compared to the Month-to-Month version, and you get free shipping within the US.

Double Season Pass (12-Month)

This box costs $25 per month, which makes it the cheapest option overall. You save 17 percent off the Month-to-Month boxes and you get free US shipping. This box gives you two full seasons of mysteries, so once you finish the first 6 episodes, you’ll get a new murder to solve.

Premium Cases

This is the best option if you don’t want to wait to receive new episodes each month. This option varies depending on which Premium Case you choose. The cheapest one is $99 while the most expensive is $250. With Premium Cases, you’ll receive all the materials for a full season of one mystery.

Hunt A Killer was founded in 2016 by Ryan Hogan and Derrick Smith, whose friendship goes all the way back to middle school.

At first, it was a once a year event at Camp Ramblewood in Maryland, but the co-founders soon realized they had to expand their reach if they wanted to make an impact in entertainment. The subscription service has gained tens of thousands of members in just 3 years, and the founders see only growth in its future.

This unique subscription service has been featured in popular publications like Washington Post and Bustle. A portion of the earnings from the subscription boxes goes to the Cold Case Foundation, which helps solve real cases.
