Five Four Club is a men’s clothing subscription service that provides members with a new box of clothing each month. Boxes typically contain 2-3 different pieces per month and what you receive in the box is catered to your style. The contents of each box reflect a savings of up to 50% what you could expect to pay at retail. New packages are shipped within 7-10 days after your card has been billed for that month’s membership cost.
Five Four Club is super simple when it comes to the price of their items and what’s included. There’s only one package available, and it will run you $60 each month.
The items that you receive each month are tailored to your style. When you sign up for the club, the first thing you’ll do is complete your profile. In the profile, you’ll be able to choose between four different style types: casual, forward, classic or a mix of all three. Next, you’ll select from one of two color palettes: dark and muted or rich and vibrant. Your answers to these questions will determine the style of items you’ll receive each month. This way, they know more about what you like, and they can send you items that reflect your taste.
From there, you’ll provide them with your shirt, pant and shoe sizes to make sure that everything you receive is the right size for you.
Here’s an example of some of the boxes that subscribers have received in the past:
Beyond the subscription service, Five Four also runs an eCommerce shop on their website. There, members and non-members alike can purchase clothing from the Five Four collection. Certain items in the collection are reserved exclusively for members of the club, and club members receive a discount of up to 25% off every item in their online store.
For the most part, the response to this service is very positive, and there are tons of review online that you can read if you’re still on the fence about subscribing.
Most reviewers are happy with the quality of the clothes. Many love the convenience the subscription offers since they receive new clothes each month without having to think about styling or taking a trip to the store to shop. It seems that the exchange process is super easy, and customers can exchange items for different sizes with ease. When it comes to customer service, many reviews tout the company for being responsive and attentive and getting issues handled in short order.
On the other hand, there are some negative reviews as well. Some customers are unhappy with the fact that they can’t choose the type of clothing they receive, especially if they live in an area where certain items they get don’t make sense for their lifestyle. For example, a customer in Arizona has a complaint because he continues to receive jackets in his boxes despite the fact that he’ll never have the opportunity to wear them since he lives in such a warm climate.
Other members have taken issue with the quality of the clothing and don’t believe that it offers much value for the price they’re paying.
Overall, the response is positive. The company has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.
Your box will ship 7-10 days after they charge your card. Future boxes are charged to your card on the 15th of each month. Those boxes also ship 7-10 days after your card has been charged.
Shipping is free within the continental United States. Members who live in Alaska or Hawaii are charged $7 for shipping while club members in Canada are charged $25 for shipping. For UK subscribers, the shipping charge is $30. International members will want to keep in mind that the shipping cost does not include any customs fees, so the actual cost of receiving your package may be higher.
You can reach the customer service department through several different methods.
Customer service reps are available via email and live chat Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30a to 5p PST. Phone service reps are available Monday through Friday from 9a-5p PST. You can also find answers to practically any question you may have on the FAQ section of their site.
If you wish to cancel your membership, you’ll need to contact customer service via email, phone or live chat between the hours listed above.
Keep in mind that you must cancel your membership by the 10th of the month to avoid being billed for your next box. If you cancel your membership after the 10th, you’ll still receive (and get charged for) one more box.
Five Four was started by Dee Murthy and Andres Izquiet in 2002. The pair met while studying at the University of Southern California. Interestingly enough, Murthy and Izquiet created the idea for the brand as an assignment for a business class in which their task was to create a business plan for a fictional business.
The founders were able to secure a key partnership with an overseas supplier that allowed them to produce their clothing cheaply and more effectively and in 2008, business began to take off. Five Four was available in many of the largest retailers in the United States. But, the effects of the recession and a changing retail market inspired the founders to regroup and think outside of the traditional retail box.
In 2012, they launched the Five Four Club, a monthly clothing subscription for men. The company continues to grow to this day, with around 100,000 members and counting. Five Four Club has also collaborated with some of the most popular designers in menswear, including Mark McNairy and Robert Geller.
