bitsbox review

Bitsbox is a monthly subscription box that offers fun app coding projects for kids. Each box comes with about a dozen themed projects to teach children ages 6-12 how to code. Members can expect to save up to 50 percent off compared to other coding software for kids. The first box ships within one week of ordering and subsequent boxes ship around the same time each month after that.

How It Works

This coding subscription box is ideal for children age 6-12 (though any child who can read and write can use it). Each box has several different coding projects, and kids can look through all of them to pick an app to practice coding. Projects range from very simple to advanced so kids are challenged along the way. Kids can create a coding account on the Bitsbox website and can start building apps!

Each month, you’ll receive about 12 new app building projects and a binder to keep them all organized. The Deluxe subscription box offers even more items for your child, including toys, collectible trading cards, and more.

It’s easy to get started with your subscription. On their website, select Sign Me Up! and then choose which type of subscription you’d like to purchase. You can choose between the Basic, Deluxe, and Digital packages.

Then, you’ll be able to select whether you want to be billed every month, every 3 months, every 6 months, or once a year. From there, fill in your shipping and payment details and wait for your first box to arrive!

You can also order your subscription box on Amazon by going to the product page and selecting Subscribe.

What Makes Bitsbox Unique?

This app coding box is great for any beginning coder! It’s created specifically with kids in mind, but anyone can use it. It requires absolutely no prior coding knowledge, and it’s easy for kids to use independently. While the apps are designed for kids to follow along and copy the existing code, there’s also plenty of room for kids to personalize each app and make it their own adjustments.

There are even options for educators to use in the classroom! It’s a great learning tool for computer science and you don’t need any special equipment to use it. Plus, you can order a single box without a month to month subscription.

Bitsbox Reviews

We checked out some Bitsbox reviews and nearly all of them were positive. Parents pointed out on the company’s webpage and Facebook page that their kids were excited to receive their subscription box every month. They love how each box comes with a variety of projects to keep kids interested. Some kids even worked on the apps together, which helped them build teamwork and problem-solving skills. Many parents found this subscription box to be a great way to bond with their kids.

One teacher’s Bitsbox review states that her second grade class “thoroughly enjoys” using the subscription service to create and experiment with coding. Parents said their kids are “obsessed” with using their monthly box and the directions are easy to follow. Some reviewers even said they learned to code along with their child!

We looked at the few negative reviews to make sure we covered everything you need to know, but there wasn’t much to see. Two one star Bitsbox reviews on HighYa stated that the customer service department was difficult to contact and one of their subscriptions was erroneously renewed automatically. However, both of these reviews were written in 2015 when the company first started. After looking at more recent reviews, customer service seems to have improved and the automatic renewal policy is stated on the company’s webpage.

Company History

Bitsbox got started in 2015 through Kickstarter by Scott Lininger and Aidan Chopra.

These two dads met through their jobs at Google and eventually quit to create this new company together. They were featured on Shark Tank, where they ultimately did not get an investment. However, when they ran their Kickstarter campaign, they raised over $253,000 - over 5 times their $45,000 goal!

The company was founded with the goal of showing people that anyone can learn to code. Scott and Aidan wanted to empower and enable kids to fulfill their dreams and show them that everyone starts somewhere.
